Privacy policy
1. Who we are
Clipwright is a video editing app for iPhone, made by Faiza. This policy explains what the app does with information. For any question about it, write to faizanst05@gmail.com.
2. What stays on your iPhone
Clipwright stores these things on your device, in the app's own storage:
- your projects, including the timeline, titles, captions and settings of each project;
- copies of the videos, photos and audio you import, and the preview and working copies the editor makes from them;
- voiceovers you record, and the videos you export;
- your preferences, such as the default frame, the default export quality and the caption server address.
None of this is uploaded to us. You can remove it at any time, as described in section 8.
3. Permissions the app asks for
- Photos, to import the photos and videos you choose, and to save exports to your library.
- Microphone, to record voiceovers while you are recording.
- Local network, to reach the caption server on your network.
The app asks for each permission when you first use the feature that needs it. You can change them in the Settings app.
4. Captions and the caption server
Captions are made by a caption server whose address you set in Advanced options. When you make captions:
- the speech audio of the clips you choose is written to a temporary file and sent to that server;
- the server transcribes the speech and returns the words and their timing, which the app saves to your project;
- for Roman Urdu and translated captions, the server sends the transcript text to a language model provider, Anthropic, which writes the text. Anthropic processes that text under its own terms;
- the app deletes its temporary audio file once the job ends.
Clipwright sends audio only to the caption server address you have set. How long a server keeps audio and text is decided by whoever runs that server. If you run your own server, you control this. Captions are not sent anywhere else.
A caption server on your local network can be reached over plain HTTP, because local network traffic is the only place where the app allows it.
5. What we do not collect
Clipwright has no accounts, so we do not ask for your name, email address or password. It has no advertising, no tracking, no analytics and no crash-reporting services. We do not collect your location, your contacts or your advertising identifier, and we do not sell or rent data.
6. Third parties
- Anthropic, a language model provider, receives transcript text only when a caption server uses it for Roman Urdu or translated captions.
- Wikimedia Commons hosts the photos in the app. The app does not send data to it; the credits page links to the photo pages.
7. Children
Clipwright is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
8. Removing your data
- Delete a project in the library to remove it and its media from your iPhone.
- In Settings, remove the preview and unused copies. Your own media is not affected.
- Delete the app to remove everything it stored on your iPhone.
- Captions that a server has already processed are kept by the server according to its operator's policy. Ask that operator to delete them.
9. Security
Your projects and media are protected by the security of your iPhone. Traffic to a caption server uses HTTPS where the address uses it, and plain HTTP only on your local network.
10. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal information, and to object to or restrict its use. We hold no personal information about you on our systems, so most requests are answered by removing data on your device as described above. For anything else, write to faizanst05@gmail.com.
11. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top and, where the change is significant, say so in the app.
